I am fed up with vague job search advice. People say network more and tailor your resume but never explain what they did step by step. I have been searching for four months with interviews but no offers. What specifically helped you land something?

I'm a 6th year attorney in NYC. Strictly defense work; started out with the City Law Dept, did a year and a half of med mal/construction, and for past year and a half have been at a well known defense firm working on high exposure construction accident cases. Contemplating taking a couple interviews at plaintiff's firms to see if there is a good fit. Does anyone have any advice on how approach discussions about compensation and what a market level comp package would or should look like?

My technical interview was on 19th Feb and received HR called me on 22nd feb for salary discussion but again on 22nd Feb 2nd HR called to have managerial round which was scheduled on 25th Feb and again got mail to submit CIS form. After submitting form didn't get any call from HR. Its been 8 days. Is i am ghosted?

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. If I'm applying to a firm as a second year and the application requires a writing sample, would it be better to attach a brief I wrote in law school, or a brief written during my limited practice, which was revised by both a senior associate and shareholder?

I have a in person(online, 4 hours - 4 people) technical interview coming up and I have been practicing my coding for the past 3 weeks. The only thought I've been having is "what if I can't solve the coding question?" I am still fairly new to the software engineer scene and the position is for a level 1 software engineer.
Does it essentially end my chances if at any point I can't solve the question? I mean I will definitely attempt to talk it through, ask question, but no progress in code. 🤷

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?
