Working for agencies we sometimes get to see red flags, but honestly often they're quite team-specific, I've seen wildly different cultures between two products in same portfolio. Different teams can have quite different cultures, and I've seen lead clients change and the whole team culture change accordingly too (though improvements in team culture always seem to take longer than declines do).
I've seen products that should have been blockbusters held back by their team, and I've seen blockbuster teams running blockbuster products.
Processes are probably the key thing you should look at because they often can't be negotiated away. Other than that you might have to trust your gut.
J&J is undergoing a significant strategic change. I can’t say avoid it, but I can say the J&J that was talked up in the 90s and 2000s is gone
I have really enjoyed my time in J&J on the commercial side over the past 8 years and don't see myself leaving. The respect for work/life balance is key for me.
Merck encourages development and has a lot of opportunities for internal advance although it might be a lateral move. Overall can’t complain. Company is on the conservative side with a ton of people who’ve been working there 20+ years.
Agreed. It is very risk adverse and on the lower end salary wise. But it’s managed well and if you work in R&D there haven’t been layoffs in a long time. It’s not bad for security.
Eli Lilly has best culture/compensation by far but location (Indy) can be an issue for some. Companies with similar culture are Merck & BMS
Pfizer, Novartis, Vertex cultures are notorious cutthroat/negative reviews
i work at vertex in commercial, i would say it’s not negative. certain BU’s are known to be tough but us commercial is a fun and thriving place to be
BMS pays well but people there are bullies. Period.
Agree
Heard that Astra Zeneca culture can be very political; some concerns with gender in the markets (not US).
Caveat: I have never worked in AZ.
Very good point.
In my opinion, regeneron has quite of toxic work culture!
It’s only politics base and if you come from an organized structure you would notice the mess
