So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
Do you ever think that this is a futile process?

Yes, this is a good lesson. Surround yourself with the people that are experiencing what you want to experience.
You will gain insights. I had 3 children and my daughter has 5 - a set of twins .
May our success stories bless you today.
Thanks so much!
I had the same concerns. So I found a black OBGYN. I ended up needing an emergency c-section and I could tell and I knew that’s what was best for me and my baby. My doc did an awesome job. I trusted her.
I am black woman with four kids and I'm fine. I wouldn't let one article scare you away from a beautiful thing. As long as you're with a good doctor, and taking good care of yourself during your pregnancy months, you'll be totally fine! I hope you enjoy your pregnancy and don't let these thoughts linger.
Thanks! This is reassuring.
Hi! first and foremost congratulations on embarking on this journey🎉
You and anyone who will be with you must be prepared to ADVOCATE, from conception, to gestation, to labor and delivery.
All along the way, through at least the first year, after you've given birth.
Unfortunately, WHERE you are giving birth today matters more than ever before.
Here in Texas the maternal mortality rate is abysmal. I do not get any gynecological care here and I would not be pregnant in this state.
I had my children at Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago. I firmly believe if I had given birth anywhere else, I would not be here, one was an emergency C-section and one was a crash C-section. The hospital employed a Doula whose whole job was ensuring my comfort and health.
I highly recommend engaging a Doula in addition to your OB/GYN and labor and delivery team.
The experience was intense and I had a very long recovery - but both of my babies and I survived.
I actually recommend diving into even more content specifically around the labor process.
I had NO labor and delivery education, so I kept watching a random TLC show called "deliver me" about three high-risk OB/GYN's and their practice. That content now is out of date, as my oldest is now 16, but I think I watched every episode, and it did help.
I understood what was happening in my own challenging situation - I had an unknown, pre-existing health conditions that contributed to my L&D challenges at that time.
Knowledge is empowering, and when
we don't know, what we don't know; it is harder to inform someone of what is wrong.
Our specific reality in the US health system is scary; having an informed, authoritative, and determined voice speaking for you, goes a long way towards getting the care that you need.
Wishing you health, comfort, happiness, and an easy path forward in all things, until your baby is here!
I am also in Texas, so this is life-saving advice for me as well.
Statistically speaking, black women have the highest maternal death rate in the United States compared to other demographics. That being said, the maternal death rate in the US is already super, super low compared to most of the world. The unfortunate truth is that black women, and women in general, are often overlooked in healthcare as a general thing, not just in pregnancy. I was very lucky to find an OB who took all my concerns seriously but I've heard some pretty bad stories. Honestly though, I wouldn't let this scare you. You have a voice, and you are allowed to advocate for yourself. The problem is that so many of us are steamrolled so often we forget that we are ALWAYS going to be in charge. So if something doesn't feel right, say something! And if they don't listen, demand to see someone who will. Period.
That's so crazy. I really was unaware of this issue. Why are black women overlooked? Is this a racist thing? I'm so confused.
Congratulations on your new bundle! I had my concerns as well after learning this and it prompted me to seek out a black, woman OBGYN as I felt my current OB at the time wasn’t taking my concerns seriously. The new OB was very thorough and that gave me peace of mind. I feel like my birth with my first child went pretty smooth. I also hired a doula which I would highly recommend. Having someone who can advocate for you and help you through labor (and even during the pregnancy and after birth) really makes a difference. Having a doula present during childbirth is also associated with lower adverse events and birth complications. I hope you enjoy your pregnancy and have a happy, healthy baby ❤️
No problem!!

It's unnecessary to uninformed in 2024, but you can choose to move through your fear. Especially now that you are informed, you have agency and choices.
There are a lot of Healthcare deserts in the US and they're growing. There are many reasons, but som issues include lack of funding, not enough Healthcare professionals interested in living in rural places, not enough Doctors being produced to meet the country's needs, etc.
Take control by look into Doulas that are familiar the hospital system you're using, the maternal mortality and surgery rates at your hospital and for your individual doctor. Find a night doula and start looking at nurseries and schools to budget. But most importantly, practice listening to yourself and your body first and foremost. You're already on the path to getting ready because you know.
Knowledge is power. As someone else mentioned it may be helpful to giver birth in another location:
