First, you’ve got an amazing background—seriously, the experience and certifications are gold. I get the frustration, though. Since academics feel out of reach without experience, consider pursuing adjunct teaching roles or online educator positions—easier to break into and can build that academic portfolio.
For skills, you might want to highlight project management (think about the development work you've done), leadership training, and curriculum design—those are hot in education and healthcare. If you're open to it, clinical education consulting is another niche to explore, and it combines your experience in a potentially higher-paying role.
Lastly, networking with former colleagues in different sectors might open doors to unexpected opportunities. You’ve got the expertise, it’s just about finding the right fit!
More bullshit..anyone with a nursing background can work anytime anywhere..sounds like a bunch of uselss bull not used in everyday life..theories of book worm with ideas and no experienex..knowledge without application is futile!!!
Also have been contracting as a clinical content writer and editor since 2021 and used it to fill in the gaps but it is not enough money wise. Can't break into academics because I don't have experience. What advice would you give since I have done the resume review, resume templates? Any skills I should add to boost my chances?
I can completely understand the burn out and toxic environment as a Nurse for 28 years bedside have you thought of telehealth?
Same here I quit my surgery nursing job 4 months ago. I suffered from burnout 3 years ago & was not able to recover mentally while still working there. I know that I do not want to go back into the
Hospital environment or surgery anymore… Having a difficult time finding a job that sparks my interest….
You may want to consider a position with a managed care company. I left bedside nursing years ago to join an insurance company and stayed in the industry until recent retirement. MCO's have WFH and office positions depending on your interest. Prior MCO experience is generally not needed as they will train you. Positions include case management, quality improvement, prevention/wellness, disease management, utilization review- your experience would align with any of those types of positions. Look for job positions using any of the above key words. Clinical content writer experience would be helpful in their areas where they are writing P&P's for staff work flows, quality management and bids on new business.
