Be authentic with yourself first. Don’t give them advice you don’t believe in, but it’s okay to stay positive pending on their experience level
Thank you. Three of the four have ~6 mos at the company. They’re still in the honeymoon phase.
I tell my team I can take off my company hat and just be a coach or mentor if they need real talk. I am honest with folks about the challenges of the company and also the good things.
Depending on your trust level with them, you can decide what level of detail to share or respond with. But either way, you can be true to who you are.
I could be that way with my former team, but the trust is not established with the new folks

Thank you for your comment. Let me explain why I don’t think I am experiencing imposter syndrome. I am competent and confident in my abilities, have had a successful long-standing career in my field, and developed many people into professionals. To add clarity, I don’t believe in my organization or executive management’s ability to lead (highly dysfunctional at the top). My problem with my team is that most of them are newer, and I need to support “the org” in my words and actions as a leader. It feels disingenuous to be a “cheerleader” to the new folks when I really want to find my way out of this mess. ✌🏼
