Hello,
Informatics is a great career. For pharmacy informatics though you need to understand what kind of problems they are facing in the pharmacy department in regards to internal workflow and also external workflows and then work to improve those conditions. I consider a senior level job which require you to work first years in the inpatient pharmacy before heading to that career especially without a residency. I’m not trying to put you down and I’m sorry if I did. It’s just my opinion and o could be wrong. I would start looking for an inpatient jobs. Don’t look in LA, OC or SD but look for inpatient pharmacy jobs in Bakersfield. I know a couple of hospitals who hire retail pharmacists and pharmacy managers into their central inpatient pharmacy. I think this would be a good first step. Then utilize your degree and enrich your understanding of the inpatient setting to apply to an informatics job that would open up in the future. We do some informatics work in the outpatient setting but mostly done by our ambulatory clinical pharmacists who again are experienced and working on current problems they face everyday or improve certain workflows in which they worked for years now. Hope this helps. Good luck.
