Hey, I have 4 YOE and currently a manager at PwC and have been managing teams for a little over a year now. My role mainly consists of leading teams of engineers deliver MVPs to our clients.
If I wanted to exit to Google or Facebook (Meta) what role would align for me? I was looking at engineering manager roles but unsure if that’s too senior for me.

You seem like such an annoying person to hang out with in real life lol

To answer your qs, no track is better than the other. We have integrative, implementation and expert paths. With that being said, many integrative and expert path consultants also do implementation work. Our transformation practice is entirely under our expert path. Our integrative consultants are flexible to play any role and will often do implementation work. The share of blue sky strategy work we do is minimal.
Mostly yes, sometimes experts get paid a little less since it’s not an up or out track
Bain HR playing too much
Staff augmentation lol

“actually doing strategy work” as if that’s the only part of consulting worth doing LOL
there’s a reason why bcg paid out full bonuses last year and Bain did not ✨
In fact, BCG didn't pay out their bonuses in full in some geos. Ha!

As an expert-track Partner, I know I’d enjoy a conversation with a new colleague about which tracks and colleagues are more or less or elite.
Very polite way to say: "this is dumb!".
Smoke and mirrors
Mmm BCG getting awfully defensive!
Ways to determine
1. If they use strategic words with Strategic slide which has no strategic importance then they are Strategy ppl
2. Ppl who says that strategy ppl don’t know anything ( I know that they are highly intellectual and strategic folks) they are non strategic ppl
3. Among non strategic ppl who says that they manage 20-30$m account, they are staff aug
4. Implementation ppl are very humble . Anyone who doesn’t fall in above categories
Kindly note that this is free analysis and readers discretion is required

Op if you are asking about the consultants with the traditional prestigious academic credentials then it is no secret it will be the integrative consultants. But what is better?
Only integrative BA gets MBA sponsorships. Expert track seems to have less pressure relative to integrative. Implementation in general has better WLB. It really depends who you are talking to.
Huh?

Define “strategy work”
Why do you care?
Our generalist consulting track is the same for everyone. We have specialized business units (like data science) that are different, and at senior levels you can switch to an expert track instead of the MDP track. But no difference for strategy/implementation/etc.
No one at MBB does staff aug.

I’ve worked at a Big 4 firm and MBB. If we do something you consider “staff aug,” we need to find a new term for it, as it in no way resembles Deloitte/Accenture staff augmentation work. I have a colleague who is quite loud about how our bankruptcy transformation work is “staff aug” and no better than PMO work. It’s not that he’s conceptually wrong, but executing a multi-billion dollar turn around for 18 months (where most staff colleagues rotate off within 6) isn’t the same as being a line FP&A analyst on a 5-year contract or an IT PM leading normal incremental updates on an HR system for 3-years.
I'm paid premium just to do non strategy work. Help!
