Rising Star
Keep applying everywhere for legal jobs (including contract attorney work) and in the interim apply for a retail job tomorrow. Do not try to go solo as a stopgap.
Seriously, doesn’t need to be glamorous, you never need to tell anyone or put it on your resume, you don’t need to tell your coworkers what you really do, you just need to do something to earn enough to pay rent/bills.
Ask for more website time.
You don’t have to say you’ve been laid off if you’re on the website, you definitely can (and should) give other explanations.
Gosh dang that’s harsh - 2 months reserves.
What about starting your own firm? I’m serious.
Starting out one client at a time (do everything remotely).
Put yourself out there.
1. Set your office up at home.
2. Go on google and advertise through there and some other places. Give a free 1 hour consultation (remotely). Then when you start picking up more clients, figure out how much you can afford to hire a paralegal or legal assistant (remotely but interview in person at Starbucks or get one of those office share rooms or you can interview remotely).
Now you can use ADP to help you with the payroll.
You can see if you like Panther, Clio, Soho, Mycase (I personally love my case)
You will need to set up an Iolta account
Get insurance in case some dingbat tries to sue you
Get dropbox for your client files and also get one of those 2-3 TB’s WD Book (it’s electronic so do not drop it because it cost $1000.00 to fix it and it’s not guaranteed they can recover your client files- and you sure don’t want happening). Have clients go to office depot and scan all docs to you.
If you need help setting up, let me know. But I think you know well enough .
These are just some thoughts and I know you will work it out. You’re smart.
But seriously whatever you choose to do I wish you all the best.!
Have you been getting interviews? I’m wondering what the job market is like in your area.
Yes. Commercial litigation
Leave. Do you really think someone is going to say pay you the money if they haven’t already? Start an aggressive search. Channel your motivation to a better firm with a better culture and faster path to Partner.
How is the job search going? Do you have any promising leads? You say you don't know what to do anymore, it might help us if you say what you've tried and what you think isn't working.
