I don’t understand how people pay insane deposits for RENTALS here. I make $110k a year and my roommate (both 26) makes $95k meaning we make more than enough to pay the $5000 monthly rent we’re budgeting for over the next 13 months but we have no savings and pretty heavy student loan/cc debt and after taxes usually have just enough for rent and other bills (phone, subscriptions, loans, car insurance). I feel like it shouldn’t be this hard to find an apartment…but the deposits 😭

I have some collections on my credit report. One from an electric company for $800 (imo they violated terms of contract and sent me to collections in spite of their fuck up), and an apartment for $80~ that charged me a cleaning fee when my apartment was spotless.

Despite these two collections have a 712-720 credit score.

So mortgage lenders care at all about the collections or is it mostly the credit score that matters?

How do you get experience when no one will hire you? I wouldn’t mind hanging a shingle but I feel it’d be irresponsible to do so with no experience. Unlike all of my classmates, I never landed an internship/externship in law school - had only one interview. I was a PT law student, came from a CS background, and worked in IT throughout law school.
