Speaking from personal experience: do it, you won’t regret it.
Your new job wouldn’t think twice about dropping you if they needed to. Take the dream job!! You have one life.
Agree. They will not be loyal to you. You need to do what is best for you
You had me at closer to home
Seriously go for it
Go for what makes you happy and feels right. We are all “replacable” but our personal happiness is not.
Spot on
Go for it! It’s YOUR career and you owe it to yourself to do what’s best for you.
Recently a senior colleague quit after 4 weeks because Google offered him a job. He told our boss it was his dream job and they were talking for months, and they “ghosted him but now that this opportunity presented itself” he needs to do what’s best for him. He gave two weeks notice to avoid burning bridges.
I had a colleague do that a few years ago too and we’re all friends. Just make sure you let them know how grateful you were for the opportunity and promise to leave things in a great spot.
You’re totally right! Thank you for the advice.
There’s no loyalty in this business, do what’s best for YOU.
This. 100% this.
Take it.
The same thing happened to me! I was only at my old agency for 3 months, a really great agency contacted me, the role was a promotion, a huge raise and the PERFECT opportunity for me.
I liked my old job but honestly had no loyalty to them (especially since I was WFH the whole time) this industry doesn’t reward people for sticking around - Do what’s best for YOU!!
As long as you resign in a respectful way, the old shop might not be a burnt bridge.
Also, if you were brought in by a headhunter remind them to review the contract clause as they may be able to recover the fee.
Go to the dream shop.
Thank you all for the wonderful feedback! I definitely know what I need to do!
I’m still in the early stages, but I am incredibly overwhelmed by the positivity in this thread! Thank you! :)
You have three months to assess a new job, but know that you’ll be burning the bridge with almost every person you’re currently working with.
Anyone the poster is currently working with would do the same thing if a better opportunity for more pay or a bigger title came along. The whole burning bridge thing, holding a grudge over someone making the best life/career decision for themselves seems a little extreme and childish. Anyone who actually does that lacks of emotional intelligence, understanding and maturity.
I once left an agency just after 2 weeks because I got another offer closer to my home. Didn't regret it
Burn that bridge! Just be honest and tell them your dream job just came up. You probably haven’t been there long enough to leave a lasting scar when you go. And if you do make some enemies, don’t worry about it. Chances are they would do the same.
Please work extra hard to find out what the working conditions and culture is really like. I did this for my ‘dream’ job and it turned out it was a sweatshop. From the outside places can look like dreams, but on the inside some places are more like a nightmare.
Glad you mentioned this. I have seen this firsthand at another agency that I always wanted to work for, who treated me terribly during the interview process. After that, I have been on my toes when it comes to finding out which agencies are really as good as they appear on the outside.
I quit a job after 2 weeks in favor of a better opportunity. They were actually very understanding. You have to look out for your own career because no one else is going to.
At my first internship, my boss said the working lesson I need to learn was that people are expendable. She still works there. I really want to visit her and tell her companies are expendable too. Keep your eye on the prize!
Give notice but offer to help identify your replacement and work your ass off up to your final day.
Fly!
Go for it!
Follow your dream!
