Well that's hard to do when you have a celebrity running for president. I don't really get the Elon hate though, what has he done wrong?

I don't particularly care for Musk as a person. I'm not anti-Musk, I'm just thoroughly ambivalent about him.
That said, there are plenty of areas he could consult the government on. EV policy, manufacturing policy, federal agency efficiency, space policy, and so on. Every single administration has advisors who consult for the government at various levels, so Musk potentially doing this for a second Trump administration would not be outside the norm. Those advisors and advisory councils are typically more under the radar, but again, Musk would just be a more visible example of a normal phenomenon.

Adding on: I don't follow the news about Musk, so I don't know what he's said, but there 100% are opportunities to make the federal workforce more efficient if that's an area he's talked about.
I'm a former longtime fed across a handful of agencies and the sheer amount of waste, duplication of efforts, and inefficiencies in general were a key part of the experience at each agency.
