I got an Amex card and have honestly been incredibly disappointed in the service. Everyone raves out the service, and yet I signed up and the link to the temporary card number gave me an error, then they charged me incorrectly for a duplicative fee, then I couldn’t actually active the physical card without calling yet again. Why does everyone like Amex???

I’ve been with them for 8 years and had nothing but incredible service, both for my work account and personal account.

They also proactively reach out to stop suspected fraud (and send a new card) and I can get a person on the phone within a minute of calling. Can’t ask for more than that.

I cannot confirm receipt of my card on the app or website, it says I need to call. So I call, it asks me 10 questions to activate my card then says it is connecting me to a representative. No music no time just silence for 15 min until I hang up. Live chat not available. I wish I had your experience but it’s been like this since day 1

I've used them for 15 years. 0 problems in that time, and at least a half dozen times where they were very helpful with an issue. Sample sizes of 1 person at a time are pretty useless though...

The real service comes when you have a premium card, like platinum. Whenever I call, I literally wait less than a minute to speak with someone.

Gotta get platinum for the great service and separate help line

Almost a decade for me, and their customer service has always been top notch. I don’t know any company that even comes close to them

What services are y’all getting? I have platinum and nothing stands out

I don’t like Amex. They had a deal if you signed with corp card you get certain amount back and I saw nothing. Called them a couple of times and nothing

I get 100 each year. You had to sign up for your card using that deal to be eligible

I didn’t understand the AmEx fandom, and then I got an AmEx card. I’ve been with them now for 8 years and I am so grateful for their stellar customer service. When there’s an issue w a vendor or a transaction I don’t worry bc I know AmEx has my back, which means I can focus on the business.

The platinum concierge is alright but only useful if you’re actually booking trips through the Amex portal.

The real difference maker is when you get charges on your card. Amex is the only card that stands by the cardholder first and not the merchant. That’s why merchants hate them, they don’t charge higher fees than visa or discover anymore that’s a load of bs if a merchant tells you that, they lowered their fees decades ago. I’ve saved myself over $1k in disputed charges by businesses trying to scam me, no way this would ever happen with visa. They also have amazing warranty programs on their platinum card. My friend’s tv and laptop started having issues after a few months, Amex refunded him the entire amount to his card and he bought entirely different ones (don’t have to buy the same crappy product you had issues with)

Need advice on buying my first home. I recently moved to Canada and like living in downtown city vibes. I’m looking for a 2Bed and really confused if putting all my savings and 60% of salary towards mortgage payments for 1.2M condos is worth it. Does it make sense to buy condos with all those monthly fees and live in city or buy a house around GTA for much less ? Which is better from an appreciation and resale point of view ?

Anyone here on a sponsored worker visa?

I am switching employers to Accenture.

I am being told I cannot clear a right to work check until my BRP arrives. And because of this I will need to have my start date pushed by two weeks (start date is mid Jan right now, visa approved yesterday and they need the documents by end of week).

Does this make sense? I'm trying to argue my case as I don't like the idea of losing two weeks, and I am approved. I cannot control the post delivery times...

Is Amex really worth it? My wife has a platinum card, and I have a Gold card - mostly because we used to travel a lot for work, but this has changed since COVID. Amex is increasing platinum fees to $675 a year, which would normally be a lot, but even more so when we're not using airline lounges, Uber kickbacks, travel perks, etc. nearly as much as we used to.
