I got invited to a student's IEP graduation ceremony. It's my first year teaching, and I'm already tearing up just thinking about it. Does anyone else get attached to their students and find those milestones so much more meaningful in special ed?

Yes! Congratulations on making it through your first year and for being able to have this experience. Make sure to cherish this moment so that you can remember it during hard times with future students.

Yup! I've worked in special ed for quite a few years now and have worked with youth in some way my entire adult life. I find that now days I get more attached to some than others.
Also, just a thought for the future. We all have a few difficult students who we think we aren't getting through to. In my experience, the difficult ones who you think aren't paying attention and you wonder why you're even trying with them are the same students who come back to you years later and tell you how much they appreciate you.
You never know how much your efforts are going to impact a kid. Sometimes you are the only consistency in that difficult kids life and years into the future they may be striving to be just like you.

100 percent!! I love my students and they become my kids… and each milestone is that much more special.

Yes!! I’m always beyond excited for summer break but still always always always have a few tears at 5th grade graduation! This year I’ll have worked with the same group since 3rd so I’ve already got my tissues ready!

I received no email, text or app notification of the flight cancellation or the new flight we were placed on, so we missed it. Anyone who has started up a side hustle whilst working in consulting - is it generally a good idea to let your employer know or will they make your life difficult/try to push you out if they know?

I’m relocating to London and would love to hear recommendations on neighborhoods. I am looking for an “urban village” feel (small coffee shops, not very touristy, can walk a dog and stroller) with a budget of 3K for a 1-2 bdr. My commute would be into Soho. I am currently looking at Notting Hill, Chelsea, and St John Woods, but I won’t be able to visit before my move. Any neighborhood recs?

Any suggestion on relatively cheap neighbourhood for a mid 20s couple in london? - - Preferably less than 30 mins commute to Green Park/ bloomsbury/ holborn area.

- balcony or a garden would be nice
- dont care about schools etc, wont have kids for a while

Would 15k per month be a bit too low to live somewhere that ticks the above conditions?

Additional Posts in Special Education Teachers

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. Then I’m left scrambling to inform my students and parents of essential information, and I’m embarrassed! My aides also look at me like why don’t you know this? Aggravating.

High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum
