Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Been laid off twice. Now I work at Wieden and have appeared on coveted industry lists (which are meaningless, but I digress).
I’ve had former coworkers who micromanaged me & made my life miserable reach out trying to play the “I’ve always been your biggest supporter!” card and it feels SO GOOD to leave them on read.
This the beautiful tale I needed to see today.

Got laid off, posted about it on LinkedIn, someone saw it and set up an interview with me, had a job offer in hand 12 days later with a $20k raise. Got my severance and signing bonus in the same day 😎
Early in my career, an in-house recruiter at a great agency let me go with the line “You’re not good. And I don’t think you’ll ever be.” It was a miracle I walked out without breaking into tears.
Joke was on her though - I landed a new job before I even left the building. Seems my team had been talking me up to their industry friends. They were just waiting to snatch me up.
Don’t have much experience in the big ad agency world, but so far in my experience, I’ve found just when things seem their worst and I doubt myself into insanity, something far better comes along.
I interned at a small shop with crappy work, when I had little to no book. They cut it short due to lack of work. 2 months later and another piece of spec work to show, I got an internship at one of the biggest shops in LA.
Went to ad school after that, just to finish one week before lockdown. Spent 6 searching relentlessly, as almost nowhere was hiring, losing business and laying people off left and right. Then got a contract role at an ok place, and the client drastically cut budgets, cutting my teams contract short, letting 15 people go (me included).
1 month later, one of my dream shops brought me on for freelance - a top tier place around here. Now it’s over, and they brought on someone with more experience to take on the role I was hoping to get. but within that time, I’ve been interviewing with a new place every week. It hurts to go, but they made it clear they’re keeping me in mind for future full time and FL roles, and that the teams enjoyed having me there. Hope it’s not just fluff.
Don’t know what’s next and it terrifies me. I constantly doubt myself and want so bad to get somewhere great. But I’ve learned (and it may seem more to others) there’s no “last chance” at anything. There’s always something better ahead.
I’ve unfortunately had to start my career in one of the worst job markets in history but it’s built thick skin and I know if I can pull though this, I can make it through anything in this field.
Sorry for the long winded response, but I too have to remind myself it’s gonna be ok. May not get what I want, but that it’s all a blip on the radar for now. Hope this helps. Hang in there

I graduated last year and did not want to take out the extra loans for portfolio school. The job market sucked but even as it started to pick up it was still feeling pretty bleak. I happened to comment on a recruiter’s linkedin post about freelancing and it just worked out that I was in the right place at the right time and ended up getting to freelance for a huge agency, giving me my first experience in the agency world. While freelancing there, I had some more interviews with other agencies and ended up getting a full-time offer that gave me more money than I asked for. I firmly believe that my freelance job gave me more confidence and helped me land my full time job. This last year sucked professionally for me, but there was finallyyyyy a light at the end of the tunnel.
I got let go from the most toxic work environment ive ever been in at a crappy agency. They thought id never get anything better than them. I heard this from a coworker.
2 months later, I had multiple job offers, including my dream job with a 30k raise.
Now that shop and the abusers in it, are about to disappear.
Youll get your redemption. Just keep looking for the opportunity.
Been laid off twice. Best experiences of my life happened as a result. Met a great number of people and built many new relationships, learned a lot about myself. It is scary and nerve racking. But it’s always the best case scenario. If you got laid off, things weren’t ideal where you were...that’s kind of it, and don’t read into it any further. You’re not a burnt Phoenix or a failure that will rise again—you were too good for the org, they couldn’t fire you, you didn’t match what they wanted. Now go live your damn life by your own standards. Set new rules, make mew friends, find yourself, and you will land much better than before.

Had a guy take over my idea and then push me out. I was very junior at the time, so other than being able to execute the hell out of it, I can see why they thought they needed someone more seasoned running it.
But he whiffed it big time and they fired him over it about a year later.

Was laid off from Pharma and have a new full time in consumer.
I was working as a finance director and got laid off, was very devastated and had invested a lot of years into the company. Ended up at a different, wayyy better agency a 1 year later (worked a job in between), and have doubled my salary from what I made before.
I was part of a mass layoff from an agency I had worked at for 7 years. Now 4 years later, I’ve left agency life entirely and make $100k more than I did while at that agency.
