creative circus is awesome 😎
Seems that way but I’m stuck in NY. Can’t move to Atlanta for two years.
Look at where they actually end up, don't trust your judgement on their books. You're not experienced enough to judge someone else's book yet. That's not a diss, just a fact.
I definitely hear that. And to be honest, it’s not as much about the ideas I saw (though some of them were outstanding), but more about the depth of the campaigns.
miami ad school is hit or miss. you can get a good book if you put in the work. think creative circus is better though.
The quality of books coming out of each ad school seems to really fluctuate. I went to MAS over 10 years ago now and will say it really depended on how good and motivated the other students in your quarter/class were. There were strong quarters that cleaned up at student award shows and just about everyone went on to great agency jobs, and then there were other quarters that were noticeably weaker. Maybe a few people would break out of those and go on to have great careers. But there were far more students that washed out of those quarters and ended up doing something completely different. You truly get out of it what you put in, and it can’t just be a solo effort. You need to be able to work with those around you to all lift yourselves and your books higher. I’d agree CC books seem to be a bit more polished right now. But I’d also say if there’s a great group who just graduated, it’s possible the experience for the new students who just entered to be totally different. Same at MAS and VCU. Nothing is guaranteed at any of them. Might be worth asking if you can talk to a student who just started at either school, under the guise of wanting to hear more about what the experience is like first hand, and then try to feel out how motivated the students in that group are. If it sounds wishy washy then you might want to look elsewhere. If there’s hunger and excitement then that’s a good recipe. That’s far more important than the pedigree of the school and past books and awards.
MASNYC is hit or miss depending on the instructor. Look at their experience.
Oof. MAS can be worth it (especially SF/NY), but MAS online quarantine edition...? Definitely not. There is no way you should pay ad school money without getting the in-person networking opportunities.
if you connect more with the CC stuff then go there. I know some really successful people to come out of there. I felt similarly when i would look at VCU books. but overall, I really
loved the freedom and autonomy MAS NY gave me. when i graduated, i really feel like the book reflected me as a person and the work i wanted to do. And i got to network in NYC for 2 years
went to circus, also similiar to you in being located in NY. dm me if you wanna chat! i did intensive research on both (CC and MAS NY) before making my decision
I didnt go to adschool but spent a while wishing I did. Studied all the books.
Im opposite from you, I really dislike (most, not all) CC books.
Love VCU ones.
MAS IS 50/50
The reason for my opinion about CC is like someone said above, theres not really ideas, just polished lines and art. Theyre the type of ads you pass on uour commute and notice but forget 2 seconds later.
Vcu has impeccable concepts, ideas and executions. The thoughts are usually very interesting.
Ive met people from MAS and agree, it is what you put into it. You can tell who cared and who didnt.
Good luck OP, hope you do whatevers best for you.
