What is “the best promotion tier you can get”?
Partner for consultants, Level 5 for Specialists, etc.
Has anyone else felt this way post-promotion? I think it is a red flag that I am burned out or maybe even need to find a new opportunity. In fact I have started looking for other opportunities that will give me back some sorely-missed WLB.
Anyone else have this happen? What did you end up doing?
Are you me? I feel this exact same way after my promotion except replace dread with apathy.
This is exactly how I’m currently feeling. Glad I’m not alone! Got promoted in October and have been weighted down by it instead of the elation that should come with hitting a major career milestone. For me, I’m thinking it’s a sign of burnout. Been trying to take it easier, delegate more and take a step away from internal work in order to balance things out.
Welcome to management!
Jokes aside, I think this is pretty common given all the things we see on the plates of our superiors while not being privy to the leverage they’re able to get from various sources (AAs, beach resources, even partners to an extent). Not to say it’s easy or that there won’t be growing pains, but it’s likely not as difficult as we initially imagine it will be...at least not the entire time you’re in the role
Now if after 3-6 months you’re still dreading going in everyday and don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel, there’s nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade and leaving for a better fit. I just worry many people psych themselves out before it begins and essentially create a self-fulfilling prophecy that it can’t be manageable
It's completely normal that you feel it takes time to settle in your new role, usually between 2-6 months as you progressively transition into new responsibilities. I would strongly suggest to talk to your Career Advisor, TM or mentor and share your feelings. They will be able to support you in that transition and also orient your thinking if you still feel that this career path is not for you. But as it was mentioned above take the time to celebrate. It's a huge achievement to be promoted and you deserve to rejoice in it !
5 months into my new level, and I can vouch w/P1. I’ve pulled back and tried to resettle a bit, and the feelings of dread are dissipating
