what on earth
Home equity doesn’t count bc you live in it. So work harder! Don’t enter a relationship and don’t engage w family, all of which are obstacles.
This is the way
okay - but imagine living like this aka depressed with still a negative net worth as a 4th year…
Coach
Let me guess brother, you grew up poor? My net worth isn’t as high as yours (had lots of debt to pay off, which I prioritized) but I still live like a student despite my salary and aggressive savings rate. I also don’t care about dating as I figure I have time for that when I’ve reached… whatever milestone I need to reach for happiness, I guess.
I’ve gotten better through therapy. My therapist told me that he has clients with nine figure net worths who still worry about losing it all and panic over every financial decision they make. That made me realize this isn’t a problem that some magic number will fix. If you don’t put in work to fix this now, you’ll be 60 and still living like a miser.

If nothing else, you’ve reached that milestone where you realized the cliche “money doesn’t buy happiness” is actually true!

You are alive. But you’re not actually living. The purpose of money is to live the life you want. That’s it.
What’s your gameplan? Where do you want to be in 5 years? 10? What does retirement look like? You don’t need to have your answers set in stone, but you should have some goals you’re working towards.
Without that anchoring you, you will feel aimless and adrift.
Not sure my net worth. Married. A baby. Life is full, happy, and purposeful.
Sounds like you may have depression. Maybe see a therapist
Life is too short to waste it like that. I just commented on another thread that after getting furloughed, I up and moved out into the country, in a small coastal tourist town. I love life so much right now. Paid cash for a fixer-upper with a bit of land. I shop at farmers markets and thrift stores. I spend my weekends at art fairs, concerts in the park, doing volunteer work, visiting nearby towns, and hiking the local trails.
Get out of the city, man. It’ll suck the life out of you. For real.
How are you $1.2m as a 3rd year (which really isn’t a midlevel)? You haven’t even made $1.2m in total comp yet most likely before taxes??? Assume you must’ve had a prior career. Feels like you could try to find some hobbies at this point. Doesn’t have to be anything crazy expensive.
Maybe he got lucky with tech stock investments. Market has been printing
Sounds like a lot of personal choices here — not sure what you’re after

Start spending and living or your children, grandchildren, or the government if you don’t end up dating, will.
Honest recommendation - start spending way more of your money.
Sound depressed like me
How much of it is home equity? I have $3mm liquid (exclusive if HE). Senior Associate. Despise the work and have tough days, for sure. That money isn’t everything doesn’t meaning it’s nothing. I’m in such a better position bc of financial security - can do things like offer to payoff my sibling’s debt, and pay for a medicinal procedure for my uncle. I fought like hell to get out of hundreds of k student debt when I started this game, and it was the best decision I made. Hang in there.

Just yourself or with a spouse?? That’s impressive! Did you have a prior career?
