I have a choice of 2 positions in insurance. I'm a person who is starting their career. One position is less money (10 percent less than the small business) but is a 25-minute walk from home with a large, corporate insurance company. The other is a small business and requires a 3 hour a day commute (both ways). I'm working at the small business right now as a broker and I have one more week to make a choice whether or not to take the corporate job (as a broker). I don't know know what to do.

sounds to me like getting 2 hours of your day back is worth it

I would go with the job that has a shorter commute. You’d be able to save more by not having to spend so much on travel to and from.

like

There’s also likely much more room to grow at the large company with the shorter commute.

like

Trust me, go with the larger company. They tend to have so much room for advancement, and other opportunities to transfer to. Sometimes they will pay for relocation At Liberty Mutual they paid my relocation from Central PA to San Diego!

I would go for the shorter commute. Is it really less pay when you factor in the time saved by working closer to home?

Pros and cons for each and go from there.

You will regret the long commute and the corporate job will have better benefits.

Anyone who has started up a side hustle whilst working in consulting - is it generally a good idea to let your employer know or will they make your life difficult/try to push you out if they know?

(Context - I need the extra income to have a shot at affording grad school, I work for a small boutique, job contract was ambiguous on the issue. Side hustle is selling stuff I make as a hobby on Amazon)

Thanks!

I’m highly disappointed about the fact that whenever I talk to the HR teams or recruiters about joining bonus, they state there’s no provision. However, my male colleagues or ex co-workers who interviewed for the same position where offered a joining bonus. This has happened to me twice now and I’m starting to believe something is wrong in the system or there is some kind of biased against women at certain workplace.

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?

I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? How many tries did it take?
