I have a kinder class that seems to be having a class party every other week and so I’m not able to take that student at that time. Should there be a limit to the number of “parties” a class is allowed to have? Or am I being too judgmental?

Therapies come first. If admin doesn’t respond positively to you with this, keep a log of missed sessions and corresponding parties. Then inform the parents

It is illegal to not meet service delivery. Can you take the child for services anyway?

I have never seen that in an iep. We even have some kids who miss part of gym, art, and music specials to get services. Parents agree to it and it is put in the additional information section. I understand not taking students away from social opportunities. But do you now have to plan make up sessions to make up for missed services because it happens so often?

How long do you spend on core subjects if not a goal on IEP? So if most goals are life skills (putting shoes on, zipping, etc.) how long would you spend on math during math hour or how much do you worry about writing activities if they can’t write etc?

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. Too many cooks in the kitchen

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!
