I have a strong interest in litigation but struggle with the idea of billing. Would transitioning to in-house counsel or plaintiff work be my only viable options? I’m also planning to start a family within the next year, which makes me question whether staying at an insurance defense firm is realistic.

In-house with the insurance company doing ID work generally has better work life balance, along with either no billing, or “fake billing” that is generally really easy to hit

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.

Is life insurance a priority to anyone at the moment, and if so why is life insurance important to you?

It can be impossible to deal with financial losses due to declining health or unforeseen circumstances by not having life insurance. In these cases, the solution to your debts (that can affect the financial stability of you or your loved ones) may fall within the category of life insurance.
