If you’re looking for shops that also roast their own beans, I’d say Sightglass, Coffee Movement, Ritual, Andytown, Third Wheel, and Linea.
Also, since it’s your first time here maybe check out Lady Falcon coffee truck at Alamo Park. Coffee is good but the park views are an even better setting to enjoy your coffee.
Sightglass and Ritual are some of my favorites!

Blue bottle is my favorite. People go crazy for Philz, but it’s not my thing.
Philz is still owned by the original family so while it’s a ‘chain’ I’d still consider it a local chain.
Blue bottle on the other hand was bought out by Nestle.

CoffeeShop in Bernal Heights!!
Tiny spot but they roast their own beans and their baked goods are incredible.

I second this. They have another branch in the Mission (and I think now Dogpatch as well). Excellent beans. Particularly like the papa New Guinea brew

I know. Sell outs! 🤣
(I was just reacting to C1 calling all the other good suggestions above chains, and he/she then proceeding to list several multi-location places…) 🤣
Delah Coffee. It's also a small chain of Yemeni coffee shops, but a very good one. Also, they are open late (never understood why in the Bay Area so many coffee shops close at 2 or 3 pm).
Equator Coffee 🔥
Andytown. Get the original bird
I am literally adding all of these to my list because the only one I have been to in this thread is Peet's and I wasn't too impressed. I didn't even realize there were this many coffee shops in the area. I want to try them all.
Any good ones in Palo Alto?
Hey Neighbor Cafe
Denton Piano Cafe in Soma. They regularly have piano players for you to listen to while you enjoy your morning coffee.
