Pubco is a good offer. If you like the team, work, industry, go for it. As others have said this will be better experience than the private co. I normally shit on 4 day in office requirements but if they really are flexible and it’s only 15 minutes it’s probably fine.
Private co sounds like a really interesting option, but not enough guarantees to turn down the bird in the hand, IMO.
Really helpful perspective, thank you! I am thinking the pubco would be a great first in house experience.

five or seven people? sounds like a sweat shop. you should not be approaching a job offer by only think about windfall outcomes. i take it that this is your first in house opportunity? how much YOE

make sure the pubco offer is flexible. i thought mine would be and it wasn't and i'm now looking to leave due to QOL.
Yeah, this was a huge concern for me. They gave me assurance it is, but they could be lying of course. I ended up taking the pubco job in the end too, so fingers crossed it isn’t a trap.
This would be my first in house role as a gen corp/ECVC senior associate coming from a firm. Which would you pick? If I don’t get an offer in time from priv co, worth taking the risk to turn down the pubco offer on the chance it’s a better role just since it’s remote (and taking a chance I don’t get the privco offer)?
Really helpful perspective. Was thinking along these lines too.
Just take the pub Co offer now and leave if you get the other one.
I probably wouldn’t be able to back out of an offer or jump as I have contacts at the pubco and wouldn’t want to damage that relationship
