You’re applying for remote roles on LinkedIn? So is everyone else.
And a lot of those postings are totally fake — put there to make the company seem like they’re growing. Go to their website. See if the job is actually listed there and apply through their portal, not LinkedIn.
A lot of these companies get so many resumes through LI that they’re using bots to weed out the other bots or people who are just applying to every remote LinkedIn job listing.
Find a 1st or 2nd connection who actually works or worked there and ask for an informative convo. See if you can get a reco or a contact for their recruiter or HR.
And take Regulatory Specialist 1’s advice and start bothering. You have a remote chance of getting a remote job if you’re just spamming LinkedIn postings.
I appreciate the depth of your response. It is quite actionable. For context, I am based in Nigeria and my opportunities to implement most of what you have mentioned is limited. But you have given me the clarity I didn't have about the bots.
Bad news: Most remote jobs require you to live in the same country as the company for tax and liability reasons, and because they want everybody working at the same time.
Stop asking for remote?
What should I ask for?
These are like in-person jobs, just more competitive. Reasons you may not be getting bites include being too junior for people to believe you can operate without in-person mentorship, giving the impression you just want *any remote job* rather than the particular one you're applying for, having a portfolio that's good but not great, etc.
You may find that the only way to get a job is to start bothering.
