Has anyone gone from not being an active swimmer to being able to consistently exercise in the lap pool? I know it’s a great workout but I worry it’d be silly for me to try to get into it.

I have - first question is how is your technique ?
how long can you swim for ?

dial in technique, gradually increase duration, focus on form not speed. swim consistently [2-4x a week]. swimming is an awesome workout.

@C1 - It helped me to swim directly against the lane rope to start. Also be conscious of your arms and hips which can cause you to twist/rotate if you aren’t even on both sides. Mostly: Just doing a lot.

I am training for a triathlon and swimming after about 40 years. I took a few private lessons, which really helped. I know quite a few people who await as their primary form of exercise - and none of them are Olympians.

$50-$90 depending on the pool, quality of the instructor, location, length of session.

some swim instructors are also personal trainers [ex collegiate swimmers]

Also started swimming as part of triathlon training about 7 years ago. I now swim roughly 3x a week somewhere between 2500-3500m a session. As they said above technique is king, I never had a technique coach so it I had quite the curve. Get training aids - flippers, pull buoy, paddles to help mix things up

It is requiring every bone in my body to not make a sex joke off of VP1’s comment. 😉😂

My temp contract has been extended. I’m relieved to be able to pay the bills, but after giving 70-80 shots a day, I literally dream about giving vaccines almost every night! Struggling to keep positive about finding a new permanent job - I was laid off at the end of April, have applied to over 60 jobs, had 6 interviews, and no offers. I can’t go back to chain retail - it damn near broke me in my 20’s, and it’s much worse now.

How would you handle not getting a lunch break when you are a salaried employee treating patients for 40 hours a week? I don’t get documentation time either, but all notes are to be completed the same day. Some of us have reached out to HR and we’re told to discuss it with the regional director, but the regional director says we’d have to come in early or leave late to block out a lunch break. My commute is an hour each way, so I’d prefer not to make my day any longer. Advice?

Does anyone here suffer from bipolar disorder? How do you manage it and working in law? I see a therapist, and a psychiatrist, and am on medication, but I still have days where I wake up and I’m so depressed I can’t move. I’m working on remedying this with my doctors, but how does one approach mental health issues with their employer? I never felt the need to until I realized how much being bipolar can affect my ability to work.

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Took my first ever sick day today on account of my very poor and worsening mental health. Just could not bring myself to put in another 14 hour day with back to back meetings and constant activity. Felt very guilty but I honestly wish I could be more honest and actually share with my manager about why I took a day off.

I have been recently selected in Virtusa and in the compensation there are components like Internet reimbursement, LTA, food reimbursement.
