Thank you for these.
I lived in Honduras for two years. Now that you've experienced plane travel try multiplying the craziness by 10000 and the comfort by -1000000 and you can get an idea what riding the public buses were like.
6) a woman crying because she couldn't board an international flight with a whole, round 5 lb cheese and arguing that "the security guard just wants to eat it himself"
2) woman sitting in economy comfort on a flight to MIA refusing to move to her assigned seat until the (brilliant) flight attendant assured her that people flying to MIA were all sitting in the back
Note: I'm not posting these to offend or make fun of anyone. Unfortunately, Honduras is a very poor country and many people have never (or rarely) gone on an airplane. It is just a fantastic contrast with the monotony of domestic business travel in the US.
1) guy next to me on a plane asking me if I think the plane will land safely. After i assured him everything was going to be ok, he proceeded to pull out his rosary and pray nonstop for the next couple of hours
3) woman asking me if the immigration forms were to be left on the seat of the plane or if she should take them with her
7) an elderly man asking if i could trade him my business class seat for his middle-economy because his lega hurt
4) elderly couple coming out of security asking "what happens next"
5) i can't upload pics but i did take one with about 25 wheelchairs waiting to board a flight (people love using wheelchairs because you get a shorter line at immigration and can take your whole family through)
@P2 Lol no! 😳 I talked to a flight attendant who got him a nice, cushy economy comfort seat though
🍿
Hahahaha these are so fantastic. I'm on a long term project in LATAM and definitely have seen some interesting airport/airplane events play out. You've inspired me to share some when I've got more.
OP, every one of these have been interesting to read. Thanks and I hope they keep coming!
How many weeks/months was this project? Very interesting that a company in Honduras could afford US consultants
Saw someone attempting to take a live chicken in a cage through immigration
Sure thing. Once when I was on a bus in a small town in the mountains of Guatemala, called Pueblo Nuevo Vinas, another bus was coming in the opposite direction on the dirt road. Our bus driver yelled at the bus driver in the other bus because the other bus was taking up the road. They proceeded to yell profanities at each other and then we thought it was over until our bus driver pulled out a machete and jumped out the door. The other driver jumped out of his bus with his machete and the fight was on. All of use were like "what the hell is going on!" On older lady sitting next to me said, "they do this all the time" and rolled her eyes. The two bus drivers cut each other up. Mostly on the arms. Then they realized that they still needed to drive their buses and they stopped, spit at each other, and thrn got back on their buses.
Did you swap seats with the old guy then?
Haha I love this, thanks for posting. Curious, do you speak Spanish? That would make overhearing conversations pretty interesting
@DD1 it was a US parent company sponsoring a global rollout... otherwise, yeah you're right very difficult
