I have been thinking about my financial goals which seem out of reach for the near future and I am having trouble coping with that fact. Is it worth switching professions now? Moved to HCOL so living at home is not a $aving option. Fortunate and grateful that my family has been able to continue to help me financially but I can’t help also feeling bad about it as a working professional. Would really be an improvement to feel financially independent while building equity in my future.

Switch professions, yesterday. I moved from audit to consulting and went from 61k to 120k in one year. I regret all the time spent in accounting, even the highest paid accountant will not have nearly the exit opportunities as an average consultant. You have so many transferable skill, you just got pick what you are good at. Get an MBA, get some tech skills, anything. Counting other peoples money will never make you rich.

I moved as a Senior 1. Because of covid I didn’t get a raise from A2>S1, so my base my senior 1 year was terrible. I networked HARD, set up time to talk with people in my desired group at all levels before even talking to a recruiter. By the time I was interviewing the whole team knew my name.

I got an MBA and I still couldn’t get into consulting, so there is that…

Anyone want to refer me lol?

I started a company just under 1 year ago. We sell a product via ecom channels and have done ~100K in revenue with a 60% gross margin.

The first 6 months I was working a full time job. I quit my job to focus on the business full time, and have since depleted my readily available capital. I’m bootstrapping the business with my own funds. I was recently offered a job in my old industry for 80K per year. I was previously making 62K.

Should I take the job?

My partner of 5 years ended our relationship last night. I’m shattered and feel absolutely sick, and I know the healing isn’t going to be easy. We were on the verge of an engagement and I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him.

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

Jump ship or stick it out? I’m a 31 y/o SFA with a Fortune 100 and am learning absolutely nothing. I have 9 years FP&A experience. All we get is busywork and no real opportunity to grow or take a more challenging role since they’re dying for SFAs. Do I stick it out for an eventual Manager role so I can be more marketable to a future employer, or try to pivot out of Finance to a new type of role and company now? Interested in more operations related work.

I'm almost done with my master's and right now we are discussing the knowledge gap that happens in 4th grade with our lower-class students. They know or have the skills for how to read (for the most part) but seem not to be able to comprehend what they are reading due to the fact that they don't have background knowledge like their upper-class peers - which is due to life experiences. Have you noticed this in your classes? I have but didn't realize why it was so hard to catch them up.

Even though life/ teaching isn’t normal right now- we still need to provide as much “normality “ for our students as possible. What is the funniest thing that has happened while teaching during hybrid or DL ? Make us smile. 😊
