Too big of a title for too small of a role that you would take at a large agency - I work at Publicis.
I have friends that are encountering a similar issue where they are the VP, or SVP of a small agency.. but small agencies aren’t hiring, and in our minds at a large agency that is a Director at best based on actual managed money under you.
Never want to be the bearer of bad news, Ditch the President title.
I had experienced the same thing. You do need to drop the "president" title and focus on the media work. Make sure you have up to date skills. Look for consultant/freelance jobs that can turn into FT. Realize that you might be rolling up your sleeves again and doing some things you haven't in a while. You might start looking at roles that are client side, business development etc. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. I have also heard from other commentors that I should drop the President title. Do you have any advice on where I could look for consultant/freelance jobs?
To be honest, senior level roles across the industry have felt scarce recently
Sadly, you’re probably overqualified. I’ve been up for a promotion for months and nothing at the Media Director level across all of Publicis is even open. Sending good wishes your way!

You need to hustle because I just got hired at Publicis as a director……and I had phone screenings for a few others there as well that weren’t a fit.
Definitely after having 10 or more years of experience bring different challenges and biases about our work. I suggest to update in new technologies and ai training to generate merged solutions for media And advertising.
I’d imagine this could be a difference between traditional media experience verse digital.
It appears no one is hiring for traditional much anymore. And if they are they probably want to see some hard skills with digital.
Soft skills like being an AE, a manager, or having traditional media skills, feel like its not even close to enough.
Being younger in this industry at this point is a huge plus.
I’m only in my late 30’s and I feel like the industry is passing me by.

Hi! What country is the position based out of? I’m in Canada but work on US accounts.
Do you have any direct client relationships that could convert into contracts or projects? If so, bring them under my umbrella!
Some companies are starting to post "contract" roles in the job name. I've seen several in LinkedIn - go to Linkedin jobs and search "contract media director" or "contract media planner" and then try swapping "contract" for "freelance". Can also toggle to job location "remote" only. 👍
