I haven't had in person interviews in ages! I don't know what to wear, is interview clothes more casual now? Interviewing at a hospital and I currently work for a startup

It's always advisable to look professional. Showing up for an interview looking casual could be read as disrespectful. That's really what it's all about, dressing well for an interview indicates you're taking the process and the organization seriously. Always better to err on the side of being overdressed.

like

Thanks for the suggestion I think you're right, better to be smarter and signal im taking it seriously

Wear formal clothes, presentable because some people will see that as readiness

like

But I have heard that it doesn't matter much for tech roles or startups

like

Yes I'm used to being very casual currently, but didn't want to assume that's the case everywhere now

Always aim to overdress instead of underdress. No one will judge you for stepping up a level, but being too casual will absolutely be held against you.

like

That's a very good point, I'll take that onboard

A safe choice is a trouser or a skirt with a button‑down shirt or blouse, and a blazer if you want to be extra polished.

Thanks very helpful!

There's a debate about this going on in the Google bowl, which I find interesting. Most people are saying they don't have a problem with this, but I think it's deeply unfair.

The argument that resonates with me is that if you move to a LCOL city the value of your output isn't all of sudden worth 25% less.

Curious what others in the industry think.
