FWIW most of Corp Strategy is FP&A adjacent. If you can’t see the direct and unbreakable relationship between FP&A and Corp Strategy then perhaps its not the right field for you.
I’d recommend you stay in the role for a minimum of 12-18 months before considering an exit, after which if you want to do pure “strategy” go into product strategy in a business line at a mature company, or perhaps consult. Should you stay in your current role or any other Corp Strategy role, recognize that a business cannot build or execute a strategy without deliberate, careful, and strategic FP&A — it’s what enables you to plan and execute on the “sexier” sides of the role like acquisitions, divestitures, cap raises, etc. The more mature the company becomes, the more niche your role will become and most likely the more finance based. There’s no point or ability to building a strategic plan if you’re not willing to track and report against its progress, make tweaks, drive profitability and aid the other business departments in creating opportunities and efficiencies.
If you’re asking what the entire breadth of roles at your disposal will be after your current one, so long as you can spin how IB and Corp Strategy have made you a well rounded candidate and can articulate your knowledge and skillset, I’d assume most non-niche business roles. Although, if you wanted to marry both experiences together corp dev would make sense — although, after Corp Dev your career path will circularly direct you back to Corp Strategy/CFO’s group at large, as Corp Dev is simply a small piece of the overall strategic and financial functions in a large organization.
Good luck.
FWIW, at the end of the day if you simply do not like CS work, that’s fine — it appears that you have experience in IB and based on this post now CS, you probably have a strong resume to transition to another field. Product line strategy or strategy consulting may be more fast paced and granular, which may be up your alley. Or, like I previously suggested, consider Corp Dev at a highly acquisitive business, or reposition to go back into Banking or buy-side. If you want to stay corporate and leave strategy, working on a product team might be more granular. In theory your resume is strong, but as always, it’s unadvisable to make a move before your 1-1.5 year mark.
