I just joined a new company that has many offices. I’m in Canada and plan to move to US eventually. I wasn’t planning to but it came out in my meeting with my new manager. How screwed am I? Does this look like I’m planning my out already?

There may be some additional context that could be helpful here. I think it’s important that employees feel comfortable to share their long term plans with their employers if they choose, so no one is blindsided in the future. That’s absolutely not necessary to do, however. If anything, if delivered correctly and not suggesting you’re a flight risk, I would think it will help build trust between you both so you can carve out the best path forward.

Are there opportunities to work remotely for this company, or satellite locations to reposition yourself out of? Communicating those types of logistics and possibilities with your manager may help further suggest your investment to your role within the company. Ultimately, it’s up to you and what you want for your life. 🙂

Oh, I see! I don’t think you should worry at all - it makes sense to share that in a personal conversation. One could argue that it was bound to come up at some point when talking about your life. Ultimately, in my opinion, no person could fault someone for having the goal of living with their beloved spouse.

Wishing you lots of luck in joining your husband in the US!

You are setting the expectations early on!That’s all about that. I don’t think this as something they could hold against you. But yeah, it depends on the person.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Is it totally weird to request another meeting after getting a job offer to make sure it's a right fit? 🤔

I've noticed that sometimes I still have lingering questions. ❔

I've been burnt out by toxic work environments, so I don't want to make another mistake. 🙄

How would you handle this logistics of this meeting? (Timing - after the offer but with time before you start? How to phrase the reason why?)

Thanks! 🔅☺️

Just started a new role in finance and I’m the only woman on the team. It’s been 3 weeks and the guys have been pretty unwelcoming and kind of rude. The first day everyone was welcoming but it went downhill since. One of them keeps trying to scare me that the work will get hard etc and there’s always awkward silence and sometimes unnecessary rude remarks. I just started and don’t feel right what should I do.

Any thoughts on post-season moves for your team? I'm personally really pissed that the Canes are letting Niederreiter talk to other teams. He's a huge part of the team's success and I'm stunned.

My coworker brought a puppy to work, who bit my hand. I ended up losing my temper and yelling at them. Now everyone is mad at me for blowing up at work, even though this is something I shouldn't have had to deal with in the first place!

What to wear for evening networking events / parties where clients would be present and dress code is business casual ? - for men

I hate working on commission. I am a naturally shy person and approaching guests in our store is intimidating enough, it's even worse when some of my more socially savvy coworkers notice me trying to strike up a conversation with someone and they come in and literally steal my client from me.

Hello all,

I've just started my new role as HR state manager for a large international law firm.

I'm a male and my admin is female. After working with her for a week and discussing it with my wife, I think my admin is a little smitten for me.

I have no feelings towards her whatsoever and have been nothing but very professional in all interactions.

Was wondering best way to set boundaries from the start?

Have you seen women wear ties and "masculine"-looking suits to work? Was it accepted by client and team? I've never worn a tie to work, but when I've worn clothing that had a more "masculine" fit either in grad school or some work environments, I've gotten comments and looks, or sometimes asked (or people gossiped) about my orientation. When I wear more "feminine"-looking clothing, I feel more more uncomfortable and awkward. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A coworker asked me to do something, I should have questioned it but did it because I trusted their seniority. I got called out for it by our boss on an email. Should I say something? I am planning to apologize to my boss and mention I’ll run it by them next time. But not sure if I should mention I had checked with my coworker who was in charge of that area.
