There may be some additional context that could be helpful here. I think it’s important that employees feel comfortable to share their long term plans with their employers if they choose, so no one is blindsided in the future. That’s absolutely not necessary to do, however. If anything, if delivered correctly and not suggesting you’re a flight risk, I would think it will help build trust between you both so you can carve out the best path forward.
Are there opportunities to work remotely for this company, or satellite locations to reposition yourself out of? Communicating those types of logistics and possibilities with your manager may help further suggest your investment to your role within the company. Ultimately, it’s up to you and what you want for your life. 🙂
Oh, I see! I don’t think you should worry at all - it makes sense to share that in a personal conversation. One could argue that it was bound to come up at some point when talking about your life. Ultimately, in my opinion, no person could fault someone for having the goal of living with their beloved spouse.
