I just landed a job at Carlyle in NYC for a PE Associate. They say starting base pay is $140k with a potential total compensation of $350k. Is this average for a PE Associate? FYI - I have about 4 yoe in industry. Thanks a lot!

I'm US based and my salary is around $250k (NYC) -I've been asked my expectation without the startup giving me a range to work from (though I've asked). I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co.
