I’m job hunting in Los Angeles, looking at a variety of titles (HRBP, Sr. HRBP, Manager, Sr. Manager, Director). I have 8 YOE and my SHRM-SCP. I reached my report limit on payscale.com, so I used a variety of other sites to price the roles (BLS, salary.com, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Robert Half). Good general advice is to make it about yourself and your performance. Most organizations will deflect discussions about the cost of living or affordability. They see that as not their problem. Making a confident case that you've grown in your job, and you're a more valuable employee now than you had been when your salary was set, is probably a more promising strategy.
Great point! Focusing on my performance makes sense. It’s all about showing value. Thanks for the advice!
I left WS to work for NHS and took a 7/hr pay cut. It’s closer to my home but I can’t definitely feel it hit of less pay 😩
That’s tough! I can imagine the impact. But being closer to home is nice. Hope it balances out for you!
Looks like a strike is looming within the NHS because the pay hasn’t moved enough. I’d tell them to see how that plays out and what happens before anything.
That’s true! A strike could really change things. It’ll be interesting to see how it unfolds. Thanks for sharing!
The honest and unfortunate answer is having a better offer on the table. In all my years working, that's gotten the biggest raise on the table (I turned it down, I was DONE done working there). The rest of the time you're lucky to get 5%.
I totally get that! I've done the same in the past, it really pushes negotiations. It’s frustrating how little we get otherwise!
