Yeah where you at? We can switch
There is no end to grind & stress in consulting world. If I were you, I will change my definition of 'rockstar'. Don't judge yourself with only what you do at work. Look at the life holistically and see if your life has improved. If so, you made the right choice. If not, head back.

Why not build for a year or two and then reassess if you want to go back?
I feel like this lifestyle sucks up a lot of your time to for lack of better words…have a life. We’re so conditioned to want to grind and do well in consulting because it’s the only lifestyle you’ve known for x amount of years.
There’s something to be said about keeping your edge and this job definitely does that. But is keeping your edge worth the consulting stress and grind? Only you can answer that.
Stay and chill for now. Give this role a chance.

What’s an individual contributor in consulting? Are you in business development like account exec?

Is that different than corporate strategy?
Being a “rockstar” at a consulting firm as SM sucks. It means you get to manage delivery of a project that’s likely sold at a price under where it should have been while also being expected to help with RFPs and community stuff. All while making the same or less than you do now.
Find a hobby or side business IMO.

Sounds like people who say they miss an abusive relationship; OP, you're in a good place after being in a bad place for so long that your brain just isn't used to it.
A couple therapy sessions may actually be very productive; channel this into something that will make you happy, don't chase stress.
I'm in the exact same situation, and undecided on the direction. For now, I'm hoping to ride out the pandemic with a low stress job that allows me to focus on personal well-being (at the cost of working in a job that is completely satisfying)
