Reach out to your team and be honest about how you feel (overwhelmed, stressed, burnt out,, etc). I did with my manager and his response was overwhelmingly supportive. Almost immediately did my work get reallocated, I got told to take any mental days, and reassurances that the team cares about me more than some arbitrary deadline. A lot of times you just have to take the initiative and say I need a break or just more appropriate working hours.
I might be very biased because I've always been on amazing teams, but if quitting's already on the table, what do you have to lose by asking?
They can set expectations with the client. Most partners would rather you stay and make the client wait than have to so the work themselves.
If you enjoy what you’re doing and like the firm, give them a chance to fix it before you explore leaving. Talk to your teams, coach, RL. If your team is short staffed, maybe they can pull someone in from another market.
Pwc is a pos company get out of it ASAP
Is bdo much better? 🤔
PwC and other big 4 are sweat shops lol
Start looking and interviewing, unless you like working those hours.
In the same boat...I feel like we're so shorthanded that there's no one to shift the work to, even if pdm is aware of the issue. There's a hiring freeze and leadership thinks that a couple of bots can just magically run the whole show.
What about India? That's where all the staff work is supposed to go anyway
Talk to your partner. Be constructive. No one expects you to work until 2 am everyday. Brainstorm with them about what can come off your list, what can go to AC. Partner can pull in more staff. Skip the RL - they don’t have to power to do anything here.
The work cannot be sent to AC because the work is basically direct communication with the client (either on phone or via email). Everyone including my client, my director, and my manager is up and work until 2AM and I feel like this is becoming the norm in my team which is not good. I will discuss the matter with the partner, but doubt if he would bring more staffs in from other groups in the firm since I work in a specialty group.
Your life is worth more than this and you have your whole professional career ahead of you. Seek other opportunities and see what else is out there. Take back control and make positive changes FOR YOU. Not easy
There’s really no way you can work from 7am to 2am everyday for a sustained period of time
Exactly.
Lol if you haven't already been interviewing you are behind. Public is designed to suck you up, abuse you as much as possible, then spit you out. The only good move you can make is to realize you need to get yourself out before you get taken advantage of too much.
How can I even schedule an interview while working 15+ hours?
Made the jump to industry and I love it.
Why is your company still EY then lol
There is likely a huge difference between the hours that you are working now and what you would think is reasonable. I would leave.
U can find the job elsewhere. U luv ur team but no one is left. Choice is clear...run like hell!!
Talk to your partner and be open and honest. It should get fixed if they truly understand what you are going through.
Are you in a specialty group in advisory or something? If you're in audit or tax, jump ship. This is not OK even long term and other teams are hiring. I work in audit at CohnReznick and would never be asked to work those hours, not even 1 day a year. That's messed up
The work def seems more interesting though
Are you working in Tax or Audit?
Neither
BDO 1, Dumb question what is “pos”?
Probably means piece of 💩but I could be wrong
What about worklayer? Not sure if that's just a tax thing. But I do agree...talk to your partner first before making any decisions.
Worklayer is for tax people but I am not in tax
Was in this exact position this time last year. I am now in Industry and very content with the move, though in all honesty I do miss some of the work I did while in PA. I will say, I didn't realize even half the options that would available to me (FWA, sabatical, change in clients, etc.) Until I told my partner I was leaving. Sometimes it takes having an offer in hand to be able to negotiate, but if you really want to stay you should definitely try talking to your partner and see what options you have. It may also affirm your desire to leave/stay.
