I need some advice. I'm a 61 year old Director with a base salary of 210k, annual bonus averages 6k, 676k in RSUs, 5.5k in a MM, 175k in 401k, 151k in high yield savings, 15k in a foreign account, 569k left on my mortgage with a value of 1.2M, no debt with the exception of 120k in student loan debt, pension that amounts to 400/mth or 36k in lump sum when claimed. Should I pay off my student loan by making extra monthly payments? How do I quickly increase my savings to get to 1M?

I would sell the rsus and payoff the mortgage with it. And use the balance plus take from HYS to zero out the student loans.

Then with my new found freedom, I would invest every spare dime I earn until retirement in VOO.

But, I hope you are not planning to retire early.

What’s the interest on the mortgage? If >5% I’d agree, if lower I’d focus on student loans at 6% first.

What’s your interest rate on your high yield savings vs. your student loans?

I’d pay off the $120k immediately with your savings. Start maxing out your 401k and rebuild your savings.

The question is unclear.

Aren’t you already at $1m (676 + 175 + 150)?

You should probably pay off the loan immediately, only reason not to would be if terms say it might be forgiven or can remain unpaid until you die. (Which seems possible since you already made it this far.)

The most important factor for you is spending.
Your savings are quite low relative to your age and income.
If you are spending much more than $100k then you will have a shock in retirement.

120k student loan at age of 61 ? I wouldn’t worry about it at this point

funny

Fair point. I see that mention as well now. Could be either.

Can you sell your RSUs?

yes i can sell the RSUs

Thoughts on potential business ideas or investment opportunities where I can live the life I deserve now and not in retirement? Hi! Pretty new to this concept, and really early within my career (only 3 months in). Currently on my company’s 401k plan, contributing well beyond the minimum to receive a match, and maxing the amount I can put in right now (25%). Dabbled a bit in options and stocks in general. Any advice, guides, or starting places you would give someone in my shoes? Thank you in advance!

I’m considering building up my I bonds to eventually replace my 6 month expenses emergency savings account. Any downsides I’m not considering? If I slowly ramp up and ladder, I can partially withdraw any amount if I need to after a year. Even with lower inflation in the future, I’m guessing it’s going to beat a savings account yield. Thoughts?

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!

I’m curious why more non-US citizens interested in FIRE don’t go live in a no/low tax jurisdiction even for a few years e.g. Dubai, some Caribbean islands. I get that some people will have family circumstances (e.g. elderly parents to look after) so it won’t be possible for them, but for a significant proportion it will be an option
