Take care of your mental health first. If you need to switch careers, then do so. I totally understand, I used to be a Corrections Officer and I got tired to being sexual harassed everyday by inmates. I had to switch up, it was no longer for me. I wish you the best!
Hang in there you are essential to us All . I’m sure not easy
Someone once asked Mother Teresa how do you deal with the things you see? We pray. You need some type of a spiritual retreat to give them to God and rest in knowing you did all you could do. And you need to figure how to care without internalizing everything. Lest any of the PC take offense at this, I'll also give the answer Arnold Schwarzenegger gave in the movie Partners when asked the same question......Vodka. Also in most places ( in the real world) you got your government job because you know someone who pulled strings for you, see if they can help you get an office job in the building.
I have been thinking about this all day. I have to say did she think the job was going to puppies and kittens with that big fat gov't benefit package. You need to think through what a job is going to be like on a bad day, and how often is it going to be a day. On the other hand find a good job stress lawyer, tell them how you never wre warned/received training for this and the house gets paid off a year from now.
First, thank you for your service. Second, start thinking about what you are interested in. Do you want to stay in law enforcement? What other jobs are available within your agency? Or...do you want to go into a totally different line of work? Once you figure that out, get your resume together and then start applying to jobs. Give yourself a good six months to find a new place to land.
There are some who will say "hang in there" or that you are needed. And that may be true. But you have to hang in there for yourself--YOU need you. So take care of yourself first. And if you have come to the end of the road with this career, that is perfectly fine. Move on. Best wishes to you.
