I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I am with you 100%. We never went back to mandatory office work after the pandemic because we are more productive working from home. It's amazing how much it has improved my quality of life by not have the stress or cost of commuting.
When I was in a law firm with a billable requirement, I completely agree. Actually, I wasn’t even really open to the idea of a non-remote job.
However, I went in house about 2 years ago and I can confidently say I wouldn’t be where I am in my career today without the face time with key shareholders and executives that my hybrid schedule has allowed.
That said, I have an incredibly flexible hybrid schedule, true vacation time, and more “holidays” (our company has two weeks paid shutdown in addition to federal holidays) than I ever did in a law firm.
Just thought I’d add another perspective
I agree, especially as a Mass Torts Paralegal with clients all over the country where 9-5 EST. Doesn’t work. A lot of companies now may do hybrid, but it still doesn’t help
I don’t know. I am mass torts hence the title but I work hybrid and there’s something about being in the firm with Attys that helps build the teamwork and has helped me enhance my position and my
Attys know me and depend on me so much more than the fully remote paralegals. I get the project I get to be their go to person and I love it and even though we are going 4 days in starting in September and I will have an almost hour commute I know it’s worth it
I personally don't understand the reluctance of firms to allow more flexibility in remote work, especially gor paralegals. I do PI work in Ohio, specializing in litigation. I have a 40 minute commute. I have the option of 1 remote day per week but it has to be the same day every week. I have to be in person to get pleadings signed but the pre-lit people could easily work from home almost exclusively. I think a lot of it is the fact the partners are older and still have a 1900's approach. They don't like remote depositions. I think we will see a big shift as the older generation of attorneys retire and the younger ones begin to take over running the firms
I would love to work hybrid or remote or even a flex schedule. IMO a lot of attorneys feel they got burned by some employees and are going back to in office - regular business hours.
I think hybrid, remote, flex positions should be earned - new employees or new to the field LA/paras can gain experience from face time with colleagues & attys in office.
I am definitely more productive at home, zero office drama - but I feel like activity is monitored more when I’m at home.

Yes, I have to agree with you that remote work should be earned, however, on the flip side of that is once in office they rarely allow people to go back to the remote work.
Unfortunately, not all employees are honest or hard working and companies have to do extra monitoring on all employees working remotely. We live in a world now where trust is completely broken.
Many companies require a camera on the monitor to work from home so they are able to check in or have a software to that checking for them.
I worked once for a company that used the cameras; I realized really quick unless the camera is directly in front of me it would tell company I am not at my home desk and immediately it would shut me (and probably others) computers down. Their spy software was full of bugs that needed fixing. I would have to call immediately and tell the company I am sitting at my desk and why was my computer shut down. On several occasions, I would be so upset because it would disconnect me and the client. Those were the days my voice was raised with them. Rightfully so.
I am more productive at home because I am not in an office answering those confounded phones and can focus more on my work. I have a great dispassion for answering phone like it is the worst plague ever.
