This sucks. You could talk to a lawyer, but I’m not sure how much further you’d get. The context you’ve shared doesn’t sound like any lines crossed. Think discrimination, or unfair dismissal. Otherwise, absolutely make your case, but you’re into the realm of the discretionary. The HR team are there to keep the costs of exit as low as possible, but also wouldn’t want a loud aggrieved employee. Your manager may be more favourable so lobbying them maybe. There will be an exit fund, so there may be flex. Try not to burn bridges, it’s a small world and things can come back to bite in time. Think about other parts of an exit package you might want: favourable reference, keep your IT kit, unused leave paid out, etc.
Ugh! I’m sorry. Going through the same thing. Move from Chicago to Knoxville for the job (although I wanted to move to TN anyway). 10% of the company was laid off last month and I got two months severance. The market here is not optimal - looking for remote work seems even more impossible
I got the same (2 months) severance after 3+ years at my company. Take it and move on. There's no law that says companies must provide severance or the amount. There's a time limit on it so take it before you lose out.
