Write down exactly the type of manager you want to be and not want to be, today. Same for SM, D, and partner.
At manager, do the same. Keep the old notes you wrote as a senior.

Make sure you are the person you yourself once wanted to work for each of those levels that are later underneath you.
This is great actionable advice, thank you :)
Self-centered-ness isn't admirable in any capacity. But I can respect a small amount of ego.
Ego is the manifestation of our own self-worth and confidence-- both of which are ABSOLUTELY correlated with success. It takes a high degree of confidence and self-assurance to succeed in the business community.
I agree. But we all struggle with imposter syndrome. A non-rambunctious ego carries some folks far in big business. Something about squeaky wheels and grease.
What I’ve noticed is that some corporate cultures bring out the worst in people.

The old saw is to surround yourself with people who are better smarter and more capable than you. Makes you both more successful and keeps you humble.
I can relate to this post so much! As an immigrant, some of the mentality at the firm makes me soo grateful I wasn’t around in my skin a 100 years ago, heck even 20 years ago LOL. Worst part was when I started to adopt a lot of this negative, privileged, I-worked-hard/deserve-everything-I-have type mentality in my professional AND personal life! I started to loose closeness in my closest relationships, that was a major blow to me. I knew I had to rethink and be intentional about my philosophy or I’d get sucked into the mentality of wherever my path would take me.
I started out on this journey of …”self-awareness” if I can call it that, third year into consulting/out of college. About seven years in now, I’ve gone through at least 30-35 books, travelled through at least 10 countries, mended many close relationships, lost a few and I feel like I’m just getting started on my journey lol.
I believe this is a life long journey and it’s sooo worth it!
Good luck OP, you’ve got this! 🥳
