Control.
It's a sad world we live in.
The whole “collaboration” argument is funniest when they require you to be in an office but it doesn’t have to be the same one as your coworkers.
They OWN the buildings. They can’t let their assets go to waste and drop value

We work with huge range of indies and almost never step foot in their office. A good team and reliable work is all that’s needed and doesn’t matter where they are based.
It’s not about what they gain, it’s about what they lose…and that’s people. If they inflict pain on their workforce salaries go down. It’s a monopolistic crony capitalism tale as old as time.

Nothing says culture and collaboration like needlessly commuting in to not interact b/c everyone has their EarPods in.
It's all about power
It’s because Mark Read found out people were grocery shopping on Friday afternoons.
