u really have to remember that we r not saving lives and the people that make it seem like life or death need to get a life. obviously u need to care but to a certain extent so u don’t drive yourself insane
I agree to an extent. You can be laissez faire about it until deadlines start creeping up.
The people who are able to compartmentalize ultimately make a career out of it.
i think at some point as an experienced senior i realized a lot of stress is self inflicted. we create a lot of expectations in our head but in reality it doesn’t really matter
so now i kind of just do my best and call it a day. there will always be more work tomorrow.
Sorry but to be frank with you it will just get worse as you go up and it is generally the same type of pressure even at different places with nice group of people from my own experience. So if u can get out sooner than later in your career, sr associate / new manager is good time to leave
I had the same feeling so I ended up leaving FDD
What did you end up doing?
I felt that when I was up for manager promo and had to see a therapist. It gets better when you have more experience and control over your schedule but not much better
i think you'd like a job at an actual company (industry). the constant scheduling/billable pressure at firms is really, really stressful. if you aren't working every hour, you get under scrutiny. i just couldn't put up with it anymore and had to look elsewhere.
What’d you find?
It’s fdd in general
You probs had more predictability in your schedule and life overall
When i was a manager in fdd I felt that way. As a senior and director i didnt. Some of it was attributable to my old big 4 firm but a good portion is just the nature of fdd
