TL;DR: career progression to me looks like work/life balance, income security, and basic happiness with where you are in life.
I’ve realized from working in my current role at an RIA that I’m simply not career-oriented. However, where I am now, there’s kind of no option other than forward movement/constant licensing/growth objectives etc. If I want to keep my job in this unstable economy and increasing unemployment rate due to “DEI” fears, I have to play the game…I’m afraid of not having a chance at other employment.
I used to not understand how people could physically do 60 or more hours of work per week when they’re only required to do 40. It’s because you sometimes can’t keep up with the work unless you login after hours or on the weekend. Sadly, I’m not the only one in my office doing this. The boss’ daughter will often vent to me lol.
So career progression for me now looks like:
1. Work/Life Balance - not feeling like I’m living to work, which is what I feel now
2. Income security - not feeling like I need a raise to maintain basic necessities and basic happiness, both of which are a right not a privilege
3. Basic Happiness - Simply not wanting to unalive myself as I look at the next 35 years of having to keep up with this rat race that we all have no choice but to join
Your version may look very different lol, but that’s my two cents. You can’t take the money or job title with you, and we all end up in the same place.
Invention, investment, steady work and faith.
