I view fishbowl posts about individuals making 100k to 200k a year, would you mind sharing your experience and resilience on what you do and how you worked hard to get where you are today?

I think it’s really easy to get discouraged when you scroll through fish bowl and see post after post of consultants talking about their seemingly unachievable finances. A lot of it is hard work and saying yes to the right risks, what people aren’t always transparent about is that there’s also a lot of generational wealth and privilege at play.

You are on your path and you’re doing a great job - don’t forget that!

Keep in mind the sacrifices many of these people are making for that $200k+ salary. If you're single, you probably work/travel so much that there is no time to date and hang out with friends. If you have a family, you may be hiring an au pair or nanny to raise your children for you because you are working so many hours that you can't see them during the week. Many of these folks are living in expensive cities where this type of salary doesn't even go that far. There are some huge trade-offs to be made in terms of quality of life.

Focus on what makes you happy - you may discover that a high salary isn't a major factor.

Hi, I am an expat living in France and working as an IT consultant. I got an experience here that recruiters insist on disclosing my current salary. Is it a norm in France? Do you reply how much you earn? To me it seems absolutely inappropriate and irrelevant. I can respond what are my future salary expectations. I refuse to tell how much I make now, and then recruiters say that they can't proceed with my application without this information. WDYT?

Tips for 6-month eval? Originally hired at 35K as assistant and was told if I performed well, I could expect to make 50K after a year. After one week, the operations manager resigned and I took over as a trial. Officially am operations manager, but no title (only verbal) and no raise. Owner likes benefits over big pay raises. Thinking about asking for 46K, new cellphone and official title change. I'm expecting some negotiating, which I've never done. 24F, AA Bus Admin, and overall good employee

Has anyone had success renegotiating pay while remaining in the same position? The last two years have significantly changed my local market and the less-than-inflation federal pay raises are not cutting it. I'd be seeking 3 steps within my current grade, but I don't know if my management even has a mechanism to make the change if they wanted to. I am aware of the Quality Step Increase, but I don't think that's the solution here.
