Honestly, YoE outside of consulting aren't super transferable into consulting. Based on pure YoE, you likely wouldn't come in entry-level, but you'd likely be "starting over" to some degree. I'd personally shoot for 2nd level roles, maybe 3rd level. But Manager sounds unreasonable if you've never managed a consulting engagement before.
From where I stand, PMP, Agile, etc. certifications won't get you much in consulting. I'd say 95% of my colleagues don't have anything of that nature, and your project experience teaches anything you need to know.
Happy to answer more questions.
That's helpful context to have. I think that's good rationale for not coming in at the bottom floor. But I still think you'll get some pushback on "relevant" experience.
FWIW there's nothing wrong with a step or two back if you think there's another industry or career path better suited for your strengths or your interests.
You can apply for whichever level and the recruiter or an interviewer will level you during the process. Something to note is the “top consulting firms” aren’t hiring rn. Deloitte has gone through 2-3 rounds of layoffs, Accenture is pulling people off projects to fire them. I recently got an offer with a T2 strat firm but that was through a referral. If this is a longer term play definitely get referrals to the companies and the recruiters will be more willing to find a spot for you. Usually the reqs that you see poster are just open reqs if someone applies that has an interesting background they will screen you and level you appropriately. I agree with everyone who posted that said that YOE from industry don’t necessarily transfer. Without consulting experience you’d probably come in at the SC level with years at level in the hopes that you would be promoted in 1 performance cycle. Best of luck!
