I was a java dev before for 2 years now in devops for 1 year. Let me tell you it totally depends on your perspective. If you want to learn lot of new things devops is good. But it is a hectic profile compared to Dev because downtime are generally taken after working hours.

If you have worked on support projects earlier it will be a bit easy for you to move into DevOps.
Linux, Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible are some DevOps tools where you can start and go in depth.
I have transitioned from System administrator to DevOps role 2 years ago.
Its not tough. It needs creativity as well to enable CI/CD pipelines. We need to know how to identiy the root cause of an error or issue. Thoroughly check logs, fix the pipeline, re-execute.
I have tested a CI pipeline over 200 times before it went live. It took me around 2 months to debug issues. It was challenging for me and i was interested in this role.
It depends upon your interest. But i recommend you to start and see if it works for you
