US about 200k, if you can deliver projects ( irrespective of the certifications that will open the door )
I think they meant “deliver projects” in the “I don’t suck at my job” way. Your comp will almost certainly be higher as an engineer vs PM
Any thoughts for UK IT market??
Certs only matter so much as it’s all theory. Like the previous person said, it’s a case of delivering results through projects. UK salaries are not that high compared to US. For a first tech role, you’re looking at £30k-£35k. That said, if you can get your foot in the door at one of the big tech or one of IBs, you could get £40k-£50k - but this is certainly not guaranteed especially with the current hiring freeze in both industries
Personally, I would not recommend being a contractor in the current economic climate because when it comes to lay offs and cost cutting measures, contractors are usually the first to go as they are usually well paid. The pay is good because the purpose is to have them as a temporary employee for a short term business need. It’s a personal choice too, personally I like the stability of having a fixed salary per month with a long term career progression plan - this may be different for your circumstances. All the best
How much did you make as in QA in your first year, if you don't mind me asking? I think I'm very underpaid
I recently moved to UK, earlier I was in India, so Salaries really differ. But I started earning like 6000£ per year in my country.
