I was accidentally forwarded one of my male peer's offer letter. I know I shouldn’t have read it, but I did and now I’m pretty enraged. This guy was offered a salary making $9,000 more than I do, for the same job with the same title. I’ve been with this company for three years…How do I bring this up with my manager without being dismissed or coming off as entitled? Ok to share the email?

I would come at this honestly, you were sent this email, you didn't seek it out, you didn't do anything wrong. Show your manager the email and discuss your salary concerns

Someone else making more than you will never be grounds for a successful negation of an increase in compensation.

If you decide to asl for a raise, come armed with details about how much more value you are bringing to the company.

I understand your emotions regarding the information you came across.. but without getting lost in the male/female dynamic or even before you consider the completely opinionated argument if he is more qualified than you are... I would highly suggest that you take into consideration that in the last 3 years, inflation has been a very large factor in how much salary offers have changed in the workplace. To be hired right now (although difficult) is actually a very good time becuase the dollar is worth less, and average salaries are grossing higher to keep up with cost of living. Which is why its somewhat of a good idea to look for new positions every 4-5 years or so (if youre unhappy or dissatisfied with current employer). I hope this message helps you!

Many innovative designs come up everyday. In order to stay relevant in the ever changing environment. You need to keep updating to the changing technologies. Check your skills if they're still relevant for today/tomorrow's job market

Maybe he’s a better negotiator than you are? Whose fault is that?

I would not say a word.
Use that information to your advantage privately. As you probably know the best and most popular way to improve a salary is to switch companies. Dont shoot yourself in the foot. Retired guy from Telecom management in Boston.☮️

I just walk in to the bosses off tell him it's Time for more money that this person and that person are being payed more then me. Drive for 400 thousand dollar a month rental store the others work slower store. Well it's like this I got everyone 10 dollars more a hour in 6 years. 40 years driving and hauling

Consider that your cost-of-living increases are not keeping up with the current rate of pay for new hires.

I was accidentally sent an email with a report showing salaries for everyone in the division. So for 2,000 people. Mind blowing!

With your 3 years of loyalty and dedication you have every right to request more. You can show the email they accidentally sent you. As difficult as it is, Don't act upset or like the new person doesn't deserve it. Bring up any successes, extra jobs you've taken on, the fact you're always there etc...Also tell them you'd be willing to help train them. Pull on his heartstrings a little and tell him with the cost of everything you could really use a bump in pay.

Yep, As a woman, jobs will definitely underpay you. Bring it up but don't day you have proof and start looking for another job if you don't get a raise. the A_holes will take advantage of you. Keep that letter!

When I was let go from my employer, I was told that I would not be paid for the unused vacation time that I had carried over from last year. Is that legal?

No, if you accrued it, it was yours.

I am interviewing at a Production Studio and it’s going well. The majority of my experience is agency side. They mentioned base salary with commission, as they want to see growth in the next 3-5 years. There has been no talk of salary yet. What does a base salary for an EP with commission usually look like in this role? What should I be asking for? I don’t want to give up my current salary, but I think this job would be such a great fit for me. Advice?

I had interviewed externally for a role on par w the internal roles, at a smaller and less established company. They confirmed +20% was in their range

How do I push back on my company if they offer less than that, if I do want one of those roles? Without a pay scale, what is the best way to approach?

If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
