I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I've had the same thing happen exactly, I apply for jobs left and right where I'm clearly qualified for. I get interviews and then they always say that they're selecting somebody else that more closely fits their current needs.
It sure feels that way. I got laid off in October and have applied to multiple jobs every week since. Only one offer to show for that effort, and I turned it down because the base was laughably low.
You will see a lot of rejections before you get the call back. It’s not a reflection of you or your experience, just how the market is going now. It is worth looking over your resume if you are getting near instant rejections, though

Yes, applicant tracking systems filter heavily now. Tailoring your CV to mirror keywords in the job description matters more than it used to. Networking and referrals are also far more effective than cold applying at scale.
Its so true as I sent a resume out at 9:30PM and within 5 minutes, I received an email thanking me for my resume and an assessment for the job requirement as the next step. These Predictive Index tests are new to me and ridiculous. I failed 3x for jobs that were perfect for me. How can you fail these?
