Layoffs at CDM ... again
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

A bit scary, tbh. I'm curious to know what the June jobs report will look like.
Was bound to happen eventually unfortunately. A recession was on it's way sooner or later and tech start-ups are high on the affected list given the business model of growth at all costs many of them adopt.
Very sad to see the way a lot of leaders manage it and the general lack of employee protection policies for those affected. Jobs were bound to be lost and we should have been a lot better prepared for that in terms of corporate startegy contingency plans and in terms of social security nets.
Noticing that a lot of recruiters are the first to be let go. Very very scary. Thinking of getting a weekend job just to have a bit more emergency money
Hard time to be a Recruiter. We went from not being able to hire fast enough over the last 2 years to being the first to be let go.
