You took time to regroup, think about the role you want next, searching for the right fit, then pivot in the interview and this is why the role im speaking to you today is such a great match for both of us (good for the interviewing firm and you). Then highlight your skills and experience and talk about how you will bring immediate impact.
I was out for 4 months and this is exactly how I played it.
Don’t go on the defensive right away. Think of a narrative. Frame it positively and optimistically without sounding naive. Keeping pushing. It won’t be easy, but the only way it doesn’t happen is if you give up. If you don’t give up, you’ll break through eventually.
Also show up to events in person. Focus on building relationships and community. References will help more than anything else right now.
And you can also start to take some projected based work or part time job such as work with Axiom etc, so you can mitigate the risk of non- practice for months
